Renee covers the self-managing side: messaging, pricing tools, cleaning coordination and the stack owners assemble when they'd rather keep the 20%. She tests on the free tiers first, like a real owner would.

What Renee is responsible for

Host software, automation, and running a rental without a manager. Corrections on those pages come to this desk first. Our standards are set out on how we test and the editorial policy page.

How Renee works

Renee tests on free tiers and trials before reading any pricing page, so the first impression comes from using the thing rather than from how it is sold. She is unusually interested in what a tool does when you stop paying, because a seasonal owner will stop paying at some point and the answer is rarely on the pricing page.

The rule Renee will not bend

If a tool will not tell you the price for your number of listings, the page says so rather than guessing at a plan.

That is not a stylistic preference. A review site that estimates a fee creates a number that did not exist, and the next person to read it treats it as a benchmark — including, sometimes, the company itself. We would rather publish a gap than manufacture a figure, and every page on this site is written that way.

Getting a correction in front of Renee

Email the desk with the page and the specific line. If a company has published something since we last read its site, send the URL rather than the figure — we cite published pages, not correspondence, so a link gets the row updated and an email with a number in it does not. Corrections are made and dated on the page. There is more on the process on the contact page.
