Due to a winter weather advisory that remains in effect until 3 a.m. Friday morning, many schools in central Michigan are calling an early snow day for Friday, February 18 tonight.
National Weather Service officials expect total snowfall accumulations of 3 to 6 inches before the advisory ends – issued for Lapeer, Sanilac, Shiawassee and Genesee counties.
Davison Community Schools, Byron Area Schools, Goodrich Area Schools, Brandon School District, Grand Blanc Community Schools, Fenton Area Public Schools, Lapeer Community Schools, Atherton Community Schools, Schools Capac Community Schools, Genesee School District, Corunna Public Schools Owosso Public Schools, LakeVille Community Schools, Holly Area Schools, and Beecher Community Schools (virtual learning) are among the school closures already announced.

Many schools in central Michigan were also closed on Thursday, February 18 due to slippery roads and flash freezing conditions.
Friday forecast shows a maximum in the mid-20s, but forecast wind gusts above 20 miles per hour will sometimes keep the wind chill below zero.
