Michigan business owner bets on second seasonal store

As businesses large and small grapple with rising costs, Annie Lang Hartman has been lucky.

“As far as costs go for us, shipping has gone up significantly,” she said. “But for the most part, none of our suppliers have raised their prices. Thanks to this, we did not have to increase our prices.

Lang Hartman’s business in Leland, Michigan, formerly Compass Paper Co., was recently renamed Wild Lettie. But that’s not the only big change; Lang Hartman has also opened a second store in nearby Suttons Bay.

“I’m taking a very, very big risk by opening another outlet,” Lang Hartman said. “Once we get over the hurdle of finally having our doors open, I’m definitely sitting down and really pushing to create a nice big cushion to get us through whatever’s to come.”
