Michigan schools again welcomed students for in-person learning this year with various safeguards in place, from mask warrants for students to vaccine warrants for staff.

Classes started in most schools in August, with some starting as early as August 18. In mid-Michigan, the last district to bring back students was the Lansing School District, where classes began on August 30 after an entirely remote 2020-21 school year. .

Under a state health department order last fall, all public districts are required to report COVID-19 cases online. Here is how many cumulative cases were reported in the 2021-22 school year by 19 districts in Greater Lansing as of October 15, 2021:

  • Lansing School District: 133 cases
  • Holt Public Schools: 69 cases
  • Grand Ledge Public Schools: 32 cases
  • Okemos public schools: 69 cases
  • East Lansing Public Schools: 71 cases
  • Mason public schools: 52 cases
  • DeWitt Public Schools: 67 cases
  • Waverly Community Schools: 43 cases
  • St. Johns Public Schools: 73 cases
  • Haslett Public Schools: 46 cases
  • Charlotte Public Schools: 84 cases
  • Eaton Rapids public schools: 27 cases
  • Williamston Community Schools: 24 cases
  • Schools in the Ovid-Elsie region: 25 cases
  • Stockbridge Community Schools: 67 cases
  • Leslie public schools: 54 cases
  • Potterville Public Schools: 19 cases
  • Schools in the Dansville region: 14 cases
  • Webberville community schools: 11 cases
