TOWNSHIP OF VERNON – A foundry in the Meadville area acquires a new owner later this year.

Advanced Cast Products, which has more than 220 employees at a plant in the Kerrtown section of Vernon Township, is sold to Grede of Southfield, Michigan, by Neenah Enterprises Inc. of Neenah, Wisconsin.

Terms of the contract are not disclosed. The sale is expected to close by September 30, according to the two private companies.

Advanced Cast Products (ACP) manufactures ductile iron and hardened ductile iron castings.

Ductile iron is a durable, fatigue resistant metal that has high strength that can be bent, twisted or formed without fracturing. Tempered ductile iron is treated with a special heat treatment, resulting in a material that can be used to cast complex shapes.

Advanced Cast Products has two casting lines and can perform vertical and horizontal casting of ductile and tempered iron in its 229,000 square foot plant. It also specializes in 1 pound to 60 pound ductile iron and tempered ductile iron castings, according to the Neenah Enterprises website.

Neenah also sells the heavy-duty business of its Neenah foundry in Grede.

“Neenah is exiting the heavy-duty truck market, and our products fit naturally into Grede’s portfolio of light-duty vehicles, trucks and industrial operations,” said Tom Slabe, President and CEO of Neenah, in a statement. . “We are confident that our customers and ACP employees will be in very good hands with Grede.”

The acquisition gives Grede increased capacity and capabilities, according to Cary Wood, CEO of Grede.

“This transaction will allow Grede to further accelerate the growth of our business in the commercial and industrial vehicle end markets,” Wood said in a statement.

Grede will add more than 220 Advanced Cast Products employees to Meadville as well as all ACP operations.

Grede to transfer Neenah Foundry’s commercial vehicle business portfolio to Grede’s other existing plants in Brewton, Alabama; New Castle, Indiana; Reedsburg, Wisconsin; and St. Cloud, Minnesota, over the next 12 months.
